We waddled out of town. It was actually a quite easy day along ATV two track paths, forest service roads and gravel roads. Even though the home was all road like paths today it was still beautiful; especially toward the end. Green valleys full of wildflowers brimmed by …

At a different place in town: Steph, Antoine Camp: Safe Haven Hostel What3Words: https://w3w.co/chicken.shred.ambivalent Nice easy walk into town after yesterday’s beating. Dan and Alannah at the hostel are so wonderful. They treat us like royalty. Alannah made such a lovely rice and beef curry meal along with a vegan version for Backtrack. Before this, she xeroxed us all over blairmore for our various town chores and also took …

Willoby Ridge Whacking

Date: 7/08/2019 Day: 5 Distance: 25.3 miles start: 8:30 am stop: 8:30 pm Elevation: 5463.0 ft Others Here: Coyote and Shroomer Camp: Tenting What3Words: https://w3w.co/impress.perfume.switchingSo tired. Feel like I’ve been whacked into a pile of jello. Almost stopped at 2 PM and 13.5 miles but then decided to go ahead and traverse the ridge. We each carried 3 liters of water in case we wanted to dry camp on the ridge, but ended up going the whole way. Willoby ridge was spectacular and worth the effort. This is part of why I’m out here; awesome views and excellent company. I …

Nero and new friends

Date: 7/07/2019 Day: 4 Distance: 8 miles start: 10:00 am stop: 12:30 pm Elevation: Others Here: Shroomer and Coyote Camp: castle mountain hostel What3Words:https://w3w.co/kangaroos.shareholders.submits Coyote, Shroomer, and I decided a nero (near zero) into castle mountain resort and hostel was in order after the past two days. Not only that but we have some time to kill because we are ahead of our reservation schedule. Yesterday we met Steph from England and Antoine from France. They didn’t start together but have teamed up at least for now. They are both pretty young and simply delightful. I’m disappointed that I didn’t …

La Coulotte

Date: 7/06/2019 Day: 3 Distance: 13 ish miles start: 8:00am stop: 7:30pm Elevation: 5367 ft Others Here: Shroomer and Coyote;Antoine and Steph across the creek Camp: Tenting next to a stream What3Words: https://w3w.co/typist.discharges.indulges This was quite possibly the most grueling single day I’ve ever encountered on trail. 11 hours and only 13 miles should give a hint.We bush wacked up to La Coulotte ridge; there was no trail and it was straight up. Then we proceeded to ascend, often on loose shale, the ridge without the help of a trail. It was basically up and down all day in these …

Easy day. Not!

Date: 7/05/2019 Day: 2 Distance: 22 miles start: 9:30 am stop: 6:30 pm Elevation: 6791 ft Others Here: Shroomer, Coyote, Backtrack Camp: outfitters camp at a19; Tenting What3Words: https://w3w.co/uranium.positioning.strongly I’m sorry, I am just too exhausted to write much. It was a good day, but long. We planned an easier day but that didn’t work out. Our planned camp site was simply not suitable; a burned out site on a slope with few flat spots. As a result we went another 4 miles. On the first real day after a 10 mile road walk, this absolutely wore me out. Camping …

Tag you’re it

Date: 7/04/2019 Day: 1 Distance: 9.5 miles Others Here: Shroomer, Coyote, Backtrack Camp: Bear Mountain Motel What3Words: ///decider.immigration.toenails Thank you David and Shirley What a beautiful day! Backtrack, Coyote, Shroomer and I tagged the border today and then chilled in the hotel room. The trails open tomorrow, so it just made sense to stay an extra day. This little hike was just what I needed. All of my pre-hike jitters were washed away by a few trail miles … and it didn’t even rain. Within those first few miles the feeling of being at home came back and I remembered …

Waterton Tomorrow

The passport adventure in Atlanta was a success and I made it to the reunion for the final day. It was wonderful to see family; some that I have not seen in decades. The time was too short, but I am so happy for the opportunity to reconnect. Just a few photos… From the reunion at camp Kuriakos, my sisters and I returned to Airdrie, AB with my aunt and uncle. Sisters flew home yesterday while I stayed on. I’ve had a wonderful visit with my Uncle David and Aunt Shirley as well as my cousin Kathy. It makes me …
