Shroomer, Coyote, Backtrack, Steffi (now Fireball – not the alchohol kind – which is quite a story in itself ), and I left after one last coffee and sausage, egg, and cheese muffin from the trading post. On the road walk back to the trail we ran into Brazil Nut who has been trying to catch up. She, Coyote, and Shroomer had a joyful reunion send then the rest of us introduced ourselves. Brazil Nut is the 3rd woman to complete the double, triple crown. Brazil and I were on the same trails in 2010, 2012 and 2016 but we never met.
It was a very enjoyable next few miles of chatting and story telling. Then it started to rain and our 17 to 20 mile day got cut short. Everyone was cold, wet, and slightly miserable. Besides, Coyote felt like she was fighting off something and wasn’t feeling well. It didn’t take any convincing to get me to stop. Backtrack was waiting for us in a pine cluster and quickly agreed to the abbreviated day. Brazil Nut was huddled in a dry place in the pines under her umbrella when we arrived at camp and she was also ready to stop. Somehow we missed Fireball. She was in front of Backtrack, but behind Brazil Nut. Yet no one saw her. She must have gone on the other side of the trees Brazil Nut was crouched under.
